A Different View from the Desk
When my American son first spotted my one small luxury, a private plate RE51 GNS, at Heathrow, he immediately christened the car the “ResiGains‑mobile” – a name that has stuck ever since.
Little did either of us imagine that the ResiGains‑mobile would one day take a long sea voyage from the south coast of England to Limassol and end up ferrying me around western Cyprus.
Today marks a small but significant milestone: I have applied to strike off ResiGains Limited as a UK company. Earlier this summer, I reincorporated ResiGains Limited as a Cyprus entity.
The business itself continues as before; it has simply moved its legal home to match where life and work have gradually been based in recent years.
After several extended stays working from Cyprus, this year’s decision was to make the move properly. In a post‑Covid, largely digital world, most client work is already delivered remotely, with regular trips back to the UK where needed, so geography is now more lifestyle choice than constraint.
Day to day, not much changes for clients. I am still at my desk most days – the main difference is that the view now takes in banana fields, avocado groves and orange trees rather than British drizzle, with the sun setting over the Mediterranean at close of play.
Invoicing remains in GBP to a UK IBAN account, contact details are unchanged, and I continue to support existing clients while considering new instructions that fit the ResiGains niche.
Would this move suit everyone? Probably not; it is very much a phase of life decision. But for this stage of my working life it makes perfect sense – not least because in Cyprus I can drive on the left, use UK plugs without adapters, and find Yorkshire tea & Marmite on the local shelves.
